Vraj Farm is a thirty-acre landscape designed around the principles of permaculture, treating nature as an interconnected living system. The project integrates water channels, food forests, orchards, and water-conservation systems, creating a landscape that evolves with the seasons.
Building from the Land
The project transforms an existing structure into a shared space for family, farmers, villagers, and community activities. Following the principle “Grow. Harvest. Build.”, materials are sourced from the site wherever possible. Basalt forms porous jaalis, farm-grown bamboo structures the roof, compressed earth creates the walls, and reclaimed bricks are used for flooring.
Withdrawal and Reconnection
Inspired by the tortoise as a symbol of retreat and introspection, the shelter is organised around a central communal volume with extensions for meditation, gatherings, services, and rest. A sunken meditation space, amphitheatre, courtyards, kitchen, and sleeping pod create varied spaces for connection and solitude.
The experience unfolds from the road through the landscape, into the pavilion, and towards the water. Vraj Farm seeks to dissolve the boundaries between architecture, agriculture, and landscape, creating a place shaped by nature, local materials, and time.
